Nuggets guard Fernandez to have back surgery, out for season

"The Nuggets announced today that guard Rudy Fernandez will need surgery on his lower back and will miss the rest of the season. He has missed 12 games this year because of the lower back strain. A date for the procedure has not been set. The injury flared up in Monday's game against Dallas. Fernandez, 26, joined the Nuggets in a Dec. 13 trade, and he has played 31 games. He has averaged 8.6 points, 2.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.03 steals in 22.9 minutes."
