Pacers' Jeff Foster retires due to chronic back pain

"Indiana Pacers center Jeff Foster realized about three years ago that his back could take only so much more pounding before he would have to walk away from the sport he loved. That time came almost three weeks ago when he re-injured his back during the team's light morning shootaround at the New Orleans Arena. Still wanting to participate in activities with his two young children, Foster announced his retirement Wednesday because of chronic back problems. The Pacers acquired Foster from Golden State on draft night in 1999."
